The ₹22,000 Cr Leap Transforming Mumbai’s Coastline

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is developing the Versova–Bhayandar Link Road—also known as the Mumbai Coastal Road North project—at an estimated cost of ₹22,000 crore. Spanning approximately 60 km across seven packages, the infrastructure project features double elevated roads and a 3.9 km twin tunnel system (Packages C and D) connecting Mindspace Malad and Charkop Creek. Designed to cut travel time between Versova and Bhayandar from 90–120 minutes down to 15–20 minutes, the project is advancing rapidly with shaft development, piling work at Charkop, and TBM spare parts slated for arrival in December 2026. Construction is further supported by the receipt of Stage II environmental clearance for the diversion of 103.6554 hectares of mangrove land.
